Gazprom Neft to finish geo survey at Chonsky fields in 2025–2028

MOSCOW, Sep 17 (PRIME) -- Russian oil company will finish geological survey operations at the Chonsky group of fields in the Irkutsk Region in 2025–2028, but entrance of a partner to the project will speed it up, Director of the geological prospecting and resource base development department Yury Masalkin told PRIME on Friday.

“The Chonsky project is located in East Siberia. Geological survey has almost been finished there, it can be completed by 2025–2028. But the work can be done faster if a partner joins the project,” he said.

The timeline of the fields’ launch and commercial development has been revised due to the pandemic, and will be elaborated after the partner’s entrance, he also said.

“We planned (the launch) for 2026, but the pandemic has adjusted our plans… We are working actively with the potential partners. As soon as any official agreements are signed, we will be able to specify the new dates when the production will begin,” he said

Masalkin added that both Russian and foreign companies are interested in the project.
